If you want to help your area rugs and carpet looking their best, regular attention is absolutely critical. A spill here, a pet stain there...and before long your area rug and carpet are beginning to look a little dingy and may smell dingy as well. And when they look dingy and smell dingy, there's a good chance they're dirty and, well...who'd want to lie on the rug then?
So here are some ways to GIVE YOUR RUG SOME LOVE to keep your area rugs looking their best:
- Vacuum your area rugs regularly, being sure to go back and forth in the same direction over the entire rug (avoiding the fringes). If you vacuum with a beater brush, set the brush so it just touches the top of the pile and moves easily across the rug. When vacuuming with a carpet tool, ease the suction of the vacuum by adjusting it accordingly. Be sure to periodically vacuum the back of the rug. Dirt works all the way through the rug and can cause wear underneath that you won't see...until it's too late.
- Rotate your area rugs often (at least every 1-2 years), especially when you notice the high traffic areas of your rug starting to look dirty, or the nap has lost its original direction or shape. Rotating your rugs will allow them to wear more evenly, maintaining their original appearance and value. Also, rotate your rugs according to the amount of direct sunlight. Over time direct sunlight can fade the dyes of your rugs.

It's a good practice to clean your rugs once a year. Don't wait until your rug is really looking bad. It's like getting stains out of your clothes. The sooner you address the problem, the more likely it is that we can get them out.
